Temporary suspension of the visa processing and current conditions on travelling to/from India and Nepal

Due to the unfavorable development of COVID-19 pandemic situation and spread of a new variant of COVID-19, India (from April 27, 2021) and Nepal (from May 22, 2021) are included in the list of countries with an extreme risk of COVID-19 infection (see the Protective Measure of the Ministry of Health of the Czech Republic). In accordance with this Protective Measure, all citizens of the Czech Republic and foreign nationals with residence in the Czech Republic are strongly discouraged from entering India and Nepal (this does not apply to citizens of these countries and to travels which cannot be postponed due to their nature).

Furthermore, rules for travelling from India and Nepal to the Czech Republic were updated on 9  July 2021. According to the pt. I.II.3 of the above-mentioned Protective Measure, all nationals of India/Nepal who were staying for more than 12 hours during the last 14 days in India/Nepal and foreign nationals who were staying for more than 12 hours during the last 14 days in India/Nepal are prohibited from entering the territory of the Czech Republic. This does not apply, among others, to foreign nationals with a permanent residence permit of the Czech Republic or a long-term residence permit of the Czech Republic (biometric card holders only), EU citizens with a temporary residence certificate of the Czech Republic and family members of CZ/EU citizens (as defined in Section 15(a) para. 1 of Act No. 326/1999 Coll.) with a temporary residence permit of the Czech Republic. Holders of a short-term or a long-term visa issued before August 2, 2021 are not allowed to travel to the Czech Republic.

According to point I.14 of the Protective Measure, the Embassy of the Czech Republic in Delhi is not entitled to accept visa applications or residence permits, with the exception of applications for long-term visas and long-term residence permits for the purpose of study pursuant to § 64 para. a) of Act No. 326/1999 Coll., on the stay of foreigners in the territory of the Czech Republic and on the amendment of certain acts as amended ( study in accredited study programs at a university for the academic / school year 2021/2022).

According to point I.15 of the Protective Measure, the Embassy of the Czech Republic in Delhi is forced to suspend all proceedings on visa applications and residence permits submitted at the Embassy of the Czech Republic in India. This applies to all submitted and decided (permitted / rejected) applications with the exception of applications for long-term visas and long-term residence permits for the purpose of study according to § 64 par. a) of Act No. 326/1999 Coll., on the stay of foreigners in the territory of the Czech Republic and on the amendment of certain acts as amended (study in accredited study programs at a university). Applicants who have already been granted a deadline for receiving visa applications were contacted by e-mail by the consular staff with further information.

In view of the current difficult development of the COVID-19 pandemic in India and Nepal, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Czech Republic recommends that all Czech citizens in these countries consider the need for their stay and, if they can, leave these countries until the situation improves.
